Description: Colonial Australian scrimshaw powder horn, domed wooden end plug with turned stopper, carved black mouth piece, and wonderful aged patina to body with coastline map with Port Macquarie, Port Stephens, Newcastle and Sydney Town, and a view of a ship and scattered buildings on the shoreline. An inscribed poem reads: 'Here is my hand, And is my [heart], That we meet, We never may part, Till death of Gaol, As had then you, And I will be parted still. E. Nye Tothilfield Prifor 1819. Aged 20.' |
